5 24Charles Balayer studied at the Toulouse Conservatoire, Organ, Improvisation, Composition, Analysis, Chamber Music and Jazz, with Xavier Darasse, Jan Willem Jansen and Jean Boyer as teachers. Charles Balayer is Honorary Professor of Organ, Improvisation and Jazz at the Brive Conservatoire. His activity as a “jazz man” led him to play at several jazz events and to accompany numerous jazz musicians. He is one of the rare French organists who practice classical music and jazz. On his own initiative, a Hammond Organ class was created in Brive to allow classical organists to discover and practice different jazz music on the organ. Charles Balayer is the author of the collection Jazzy Organ, a beginner’s method to jazz on the organ (Edições Delatour, France). Charles Balayer is regularly invited to concerts or master classes at festivals or conservatories (Toulouse, Paris, Saint-Omer, St Andrews, Geneva and, more recently, Norway). Charles Balayer is also a composer (published by Robert Martin, Delatour France, la Sinfonie d’Orphée, ADF-Bayard Musique) and principal organist of the great Jean-Baptiste Stoltz organ of the Saint-Martin collegiate church in Brive.
