Maria Bayley began her musical studies at the Gregorian Institute in Lisbon, studying harpsichord with Cristiano Holtz. She studied harpsichord at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Jacques Ogg. He obtained a master’s degree in Medieval and Renaissance Keyboards at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Corina Marti and in Singing with a specialization in early music ensemble at the Tilburg Conservatory. She studied baroque harp as a second instrument in both master’s degrees, with Emma Huijsser and Heidrun Rosenzweig respectively. She regularly collaborates with La Academia de los Nocturnos, Cantores Sancti Gregorii, Palma Choralis and O Bando de Surunyo. She is vice-president of the Ars Hispana Association, dedicated to the research and publishing of Spanish music. She founded the ensemble Ars Lusitana in 2011, dedicated to performing mainly Portuguese repertoire. She is also a founding member of Ensemble 258, dedicated to the performance of baroque music. She completed a master’s degree in early music theory at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, and a master’s degree in harpsichord teaching at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with Ana Mafalda Castro. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Coimbra.
